What Causes Sharp Ear Pain After Having Zithromax Z-Pak?
I have been having this throbbing sharp pain in my left ear for bout 7 1/2 hrs. now and it was doing it before I fell asleep I woke up bout 45 mins ago and its still doing it I have been on a z pack for congetion and was prescribed another antibiotic following the zpack so what if anything can I do to get it to stop and what is this caused from
it could be an acute otitis. Sometimes other upper respiratory tract infections cause otitis (as a complication). This is the most likely cause particularly if is also accompanied by partial hearing loss. Azithromycin is a good antibiotic against otitis, so it should help, if a susceptible pathogen is involved. Using decongestants may also help by reducing the swelling of the eustachian tube (the tube that connects the inner ear with the nose).
An ENT (ear-nose-throat) specialist or your primary care doctor should visually check your ear for inflammation and instruct you accordingly. Till then you can use paracetamol (acetaminophen) for the pain. Avoid instilling any kind of drops to your external ear because if there is any hole on the tympanic membrane, you may cause damage to the inner ear.
